Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama
Hiking up the mountain, excellent view and Lovely monkeys!!

The city of Kyoto has endless tourist attractions.
It would take you weeks to visit each fascinating spot.

Arashiyama Monkey Park is one of the most enjoyable places to visit in the Arashiyama area which has tons of great tourist spots such as Togetsukyo-Bridge, Zen temples, shrines, Arashiyama Bamboo forest, Japanese restaurants and traditional craft shops.

There are theree way to get the area from downtown Kyoto, taking a JR train, Hankyu train and Randen train.
I would recommend taking a Raden train from Shijo Omiya station.
The cute one carriage train/tram takes you about 20 minutes to get to the Arashiyama area and it is great to see beautiful local towns out of the train window.

Crossng the Togetsukyo Bridge after getting out of the Randen Arashiyama station and walk to north west along the rive you can see the entrance of the Arashiyama Monkey park on the lef hand side.
You will take some steps from the entrance and pass through torii gates of peaceful shrine near the ticket office.

Hiking up to the top of the mountain is a great addition to your trip.
It is about 30 minute walk up to the top and challenging one so I would recommend wearing confortable clothes and shoes and taking some water!

Your hard work climbing the mountain would be worth it.
When you get to the top of the mountain the trees suddenly disapper and the view opens up to a breathtaking overlook of the city. You can see the Kyoto mountains, Kyoto Tower and whole city.

Of course the highlight of the hiking is to see cute monkeys at the park on the top of the mountain.
There are some park rules such as "Don't look the monkeys in the eye, "don't touch them" however it still more free-range than any zoo.
The most exciting part for your trip for sure is to feed the monkeys.
There is a building at the top where you can go inside and buy the inexpensive feed.
It is a great place to see the monkeys at very close range!

Usually at 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30, the monkeys are fed by the park staff and it is definitely something you can't miss.
Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama is a great spot to visit and enjoy your day!!
