The spring when Kyoto becomes its most beautiful is just around the corner.

Speaking of spring fun, many people may imagine cherry blossoms that are pretty and beautiful
but in the spring in Kyoto, there a beautiful and brilliant event that is no less beautiful than the
cherry blossoms, which is a dance event performed by Maiko and Geiko held in the Gion, Kamishichiken district and so on the so called “Kagai”.
From March to May, each Kagai will be hold an event.

In the Kamishichiken district, one of the five Kagai, “Kitano Odori” will be held from March 25th to April 7th.
This traditional dance performance started in 1952 in Kamishichiken as a dedication for the 1050th anniversary of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, it has been performed by beautiful maiko and geiko every spring and autumn since.

Kamishichiken Kabu-renjo where dance performance is held is a historical building, said to be built in 1902, and you can also see a lovely garden with a quiet and calm atmosphere.
In addition, tea and Japanese sweets are available before the dance performance. (An extra fee is required.)

As maiko will show the tea ceremony, there may be opportunities to see beautiful maiko up close.

People from overseas enjoy the performance as well as the atmospher of "Kagai"

Cherry blossom viewing at the famous sights is also wonderful, but why don’t you visit the beautiful Kagai that can be only enjoyed in Kyoto.
