We are offering a free tour of the Kitano area.
Enjoy walking the area which has a rich history and the place of the coexistence of religion and entertainment.

10:00am - 12:30pm
(2 tours on January 25th from 10:00am and 1:00pm)
Please come and meet your guides at the main Torii gate of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine at 9:50am.
No bookings & No tour fee is required.
The oldest kagai, or the geisha district in Kyoto, Kamishihiken is in the middle of the area. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is in the west of the area and one of the oldest Buddhist style architectures, called Senbon Shakado temple is in the east of the area.
From the 10th century to the 15th century, the Kitano area was the place of ‘religion’ and ‘entertainment. It was one of the most flourishing districts in Kyoto.
Shrines and temples were the foundation for the citizens and also they were attractive so people gathered there.
In the tour feel and enjoy the three cultures, Shintoism, Buddhism and Geiko or Maiko culture.
These three cultures coexisted not only spiritually, but also geographically in Kyoto.
They related closely each other.
