We had a May special tea tour!

Guests from Australia joined the tour and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day in Kyoto.
They have been drinking and preparing Japanese tea for a few years so they were excited to join the tour.

We took trains to Uji and got a tea farm where we picked tea leaves.
At the tea farm, this was one of the most enjoyable time. Before we started picking tea leaves,
we chnaged to traditional costume which you wear when you pick tea leaves.

We worked very hard picking a lot of leasves and then visited a tea plant.
Tea farmers there showed us how to make tea prodcuts from the tea leaves and told us some tea stories and we enjoyed making "Hoji-cha", roasted green tea
and fried tea leaves.

They visited some tea shops for collecting gifts and we had Soba lunch.
It was very good.
We reterned Kyoto a little late because we spend a lot of time in Uji.

Our guests were interested in tea utensils such as chawan (tea bowl), kyusu and tea pots
so we visited a tea utensil shop and they bought very nice tea uensils.

At the end of the tour we had a tea ceremony in Ninen-zaka near Kiyomizu-dera Temple
and wrapped up the tour with great Okonomiyaki in Gion.
